PSP Phone rumours resurface

Rumours that Sony is working on a PlayStation-branded phone have resurfaced again, according to recent trade reports.

Marketing Week claims that unnamed industry insider sources in Japan and Korea report that the PlayStation phone will incorporate elements of Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) and is being readied for release by Christmas next year (2009).

Frosty relations

The same unnamed insiders told Marketing Week that Sony will never consider giving its PlayStation branding to the mobile specialist joint venture Sony Ericsson, as relations between the two companies were 'frosty' following the 'strategic error' of Sony handing over its Walkman branding to Sony Ericsson for use on mobile phones.

Sony Ericsson has recently launched its F305 gaming phone, which features a motion-control style interface.

Neither of the two companies are currently commenting on rumour or speculation surrounding the proposed PlayStation phone.

I wish, hope, pray that Sony would just release a PSP phone and get rid of the rumours. So many rumours and you'd think Sony would take the hint and make the thing already - people want it dont they?

To be honest I don't think a PSP phone would ever catch on, anyone remember N-gage? Why do people need to play games on their phone? The PSP was't even that great so adding a phone and potentially sacrificing features from both products would be business suicide. I hope to God they don't make it. =]

I'm not sure that I'd buy a psp phone - unless it was in partnership with apple (and i doubt that very much) but sony does have a big phone company under its belt, so they might be able to pull it off!

They should hurry up and make it, but then yeah, N-Gage all over again?
I didn't actually mind the N-Gage as it happens, and my mum had it, and did for ages until she got a new phone, even then I had to convince her it was better than the one she had.

I wouldn't mind seeing what it turned out like. I love my Sony PSP and my Sony phone, so who knows lol . (Except I couldn't live without my camera, and I don't think the PSP phone would have one.)

Well I wouldn't buy it so don;t get me wrong there lol. I can't think of anything more pointless but, like the n-gage, I think the PSP phone will have to come out sooner or later so sooner would be good, get it over and done with.
