Default Should you wait a few months before getting that game you want

I got Ninja Gaiden Sigma delivered today for the PS3 (£14.99 from play.com). I've only been playing it an hour or so but it seems pretty good. I can see why reviews compare it to devil may cry (which I also have) as it's very similar...eg. hack and slash and platform. It's apparently better than DMC though.I ordered Condemned 2 as well from £12.99 from The Game Collection.

It's definately easier to find a bargain. When I bought the PS3 last year there were not many bargains but there now seems to be a good catalogue of older games. The back catalogue for the 360 seems even better.

I was alking to my mate about this. I got Metal Gear Solid 4 on release date. Fantastic game but it was £40 and I completed it in 2-3 days and I haven't completed it yet. For that money it's now possible to get 2-3 older games. I know that indivdually these games might not be as good but I definately think it's the better deal.

When I bought MGS4 a few months ago I asked my mate if he was getting it and he said he was gonna wait til it comes down in price. I actually think he's right now.

MGS4 is now about £25 brand new (£30 at most). Tiger Woods 09 is just out and still £35-£40 most places but it's only £15 for Tiger 08. The same could be said of other sequals. Motorstorm 2 is coming out soon and looks pretty good. However, you can pick up Motorstorm 1 for £7.99 brand new. I know the second game will be better but when you remember the new one will be released at £40 it makes you think twice about which one to get.

I'm not suggesting quantity over quality, but rather some common sence when it comes to buying games. It really does pay to wait around a bit for some games. Don't get me wrong, I'll still be getting Call of Duty 5 when it's released but generally speaking I think I'll be a bargain hunter from now on!

You're definitely right there. I do buy the odd game on release (CoD4 for example - not that its any cheaper now) but, I usually wait a little while until they are in a sale or offer and so often the game I want is on offer quite soon after release and I know that so I dont rush and buy it.

Yeah COD hasn't droppd too much but it was replaced with the game of the year edition which has the extra maps (which cost me £6.99).

    I've learnt that too.

Even worse is the game isn't as good as expecting.
Tony Hawks proving Ground for example, £40 on release, but fortunately I worked at Game at the time so £30. But a week or two later, I traded it in.....was being sold brand new for £30 and trade in was either £18 or £22

I don't know much about tony hawks. I picked up skate for £15 recently though. That's actually an ok game.

The last game I bought on the release date was Battlefield 2 (I also got halflife2 on the day it came out and quake 3, but I got them for free cos I worked in a custom build pc shop!) Its not worth forking out a days wages to buy a game. you can just wait a week and buy it from ebay from someone who has completed it and doesn't want it any more.
