Just upgraded the hard drive on my PS3

Recently I’ve found that I contantly need to delete demos and trailers I’ve downloaded because of a lack of memory so this week I took the plunge and ordered a new hard drive. I got a 320gb 5400RPM Sata drive from Ebuyer, an absolute steal at £56.
I wouldn’t recommend buying a more expensive 7200RPM drive. I checked out a few articles and apparantly it is only marginally quicker. With a 320GB 5400 RPM drive coming in under 60 pounds and a 7200 RPM coming in at over one hundred, it was a no brainer to get the 5400 (which is the speed of the drive which comes with your PS3 anyways).
Upgrading was incredibly easy (I followed this guide). All you have to do is backup your drive to an external usb drive, replace the hard drive with your newer larger drive and then switch it back on. A quick format and then you can restore your files from the external drive.
Backing up and restoring takes around an hour each time but all in all it’s a fairly easy process and one I recommend doing if you’re running out of space on your PS3.
