Grand Theft Auto IV banned in Thailand
The BBC today reported that Grand Theft Auto 4 has been banned in Thailand after a teenager confessed to murdering a taxi driver, echoing one of the frequent occurences in the game.
The 18-year-old high school student is accused of stabbing the cab driver to death by trying to copy a scene from the game.
The biggest video game publisher in the south-east Asian country, New Era Interactive Media, has told retailers to stop selling GTA IV.
It is due to be replaced by another video game title.
I know there is evidence to suggest violent movies and games influence people to do this kind of thing but in my opinion, someone who does something like this would have done it whether they played the game or not. Pulling the game is just a knee jerk reaction to please the media, something which we have seen countless times in the UK.
What do you think, should GTA 4 be banned in Thailand because of this horrible incident?

Has nothing to do with the game, the guy would have done something regardless, he obviously is messed up in the head.

I agree. This seems to be a view which large media corporations are reluctant to express. It was a horrible thing to happen but these kind of things before movies and games came along. A well balanced 18 year old knows the difference between right and wrong and no game should change that.
