Deaths should count more in Call of Duty

Call of Duty 4 was one of the first games I bought for the PS3 last year. I have bought many of the new releases in 2008 like GTA4 and Metal Gear Solid 4. Whenever I get a new game I play it for a while but inevitably I go back to playing COD4 online. It is by far the best multiplayer game out just now in my opinion.
One thing that has been annoying me recently is the scoring system. Deaths are just not considered in the leaderboard. Currently, in a team game you get 10 points for a kill and 2 for an assist. However you don’t lose anything by dying. Now, I can see why they do this to an extent as I they want to encourage gameplay and don’t want boring negative players to come out on top though it is unfair in my opinion.
Take tonight for example, I got 18 kills, 1 assist and 2 deaths. Another guy in my team had 18 kills, 4 assists and 22 deaths and he topped the table. It doesn’t matter that he cost our team 200 team points, the leaderboard only shows that he had more points because of the assists he had. A few days ago I managed to get to the end of Creek without dying and had 17 kills. I unfortunately got stabbed and we lost the game though it was annoying to see someone with 20 kills and 18 deaths have more points as me with 17 kills and one death.
I do think that kills and assists should count but as it stands, there is nothing which rewards you for not dying ie. for not giving the opposing team points. Surely some sort of percentage can be applied at the end of the game to reduce a players points or perhaps even negative 2 points a death. Either would still reward killing but would at least make it so that people who run about like headless chickens and lose your team the game are penalised in some way.
What do you think, should you have points taken off for dying?
