The internet is set loose, but at what cost?

Having just moved into a new flat with my girlfriend we were a bit miffed to find out that we would have to get BT to install a new line if we were to get broadband connected. Cutting a long story short we decided against the whole kurffufle and I set about looking at other way I could connect to the internet.
Sobbing onto my Xbox 360 controller I’ve resigned myself to the fact that playing on Xbox Live will have to be stopped until we eventually move in another six months (sob!). So I’ve been looking at mobile broadband.
I’ve settled with the Vodafone USB mobile broadband stick. It provides you with a connection, depending on location, geography and other users, of 7.2mbps. Which is not at all bad. Not when you consider that you can be surfing the web pretty much anywhere.
It costs around £15 a month and depending on the length of the contract you will have to pay around £70 for the USB stick. While this is not an extortionate amount of money they do put a usage cap on how much you can use the internet. And there is the major problem. It’s only 3 gig, which is not a lot when you get down to it.

That’s a sore one David. I’ve been with telelwest cable for more than 8 years now (now virgin media) however I had an absolute nightmare this time last year when I living in Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand basically has very slow internet connections compared to the UK and it’s pretty expensive with most ISP’s putting limits on downloading and uploading too.
3gb will be used up very quickly - as you said, I wouldn’t use xbox live on it or watch many vids on youtube.
Is the signal pretty reliable/stable?

It is. Unless your in the back of beyond or something. They told me the speed will be wicked fast in London, so that will be good when I do my work experience. I just had to get the internet in some form, and this was the cheapest way. Shame about Live tho.

I’ve got a Wii and a PS3 but I use the PS network everyday to play Call of Duty 4 and I would certainly miss that if I lost my net connection.
Do you get a meter or traffic counter or something to count how much gb you have used?
