Cult Fave The Princess Bride Coming to PC

The Princess Bride Downloadable Game Trailer from PrincessBrideGame on Vimeo.

Inconceivable! The game is set to be unveiled during the Game Developer’s Conference on 18 February. It will be released as a $19.95 PC download. Levels include As You Wish, Battle of the Wits, The Fire Swamp, Miracle Max and Storming the Castle. From the looks of the game’s website, developer Worldwide Biggies (ugh) have gone with an animted style

This is one of the less expected movie-to-game adaptations, but thinking about it, I can see plenty of opportunities here. Hopefully the game will retain the film’s whimsical feel and not take itself too seriously. It will be interesting to see if the film’s fanbase shows any interest in the game. I can’t help but think they’re going with the wrong distribution model here, as fans of the film might be likely to plunk down $20 if they saw the game on the shelf out of nostalgia alone. Twenty bucks is a lot to ask for a download, especially when you’re not working with an already beloved franchise, like say Half Life.

I’m thinking Lord of the Rings style beat-em-up, only with Gimly, Aragorn, and Legolas replaced with Fezzik, Westly, and Indigo Montoya, respectively.

And Fred Savage as Frodo.
