Wii Play in Prison Sparks Controversy

beats getting shivved

Should taxpayers fund the gaming habits of inmates? Some UK citizens think not:

Mark Wallace, a spokesman for watchdog group the Taxpayers’ Alliance, was more vociferous on the issue: It’s a disgrace. Taxpayers are funding a lavish lifestyle for people who should not even be in this country.

Enjoying Wii games on widescreen TV’s is a posh lifestyle that few of us ordinary citizens can afford, why should the honest taxpayer be forced to fund the prisoners’ lavish treatment? Doesn’t this further incentivize the criminal behavior?

On the other hand, these are not cold-blooded killers, but illegal immigrants most likely seeking a better standard of living for themselves and their families. Perhaps it’s a relatively inexpensive way to give them something to do until they get shipped back to whatever forsken hell hole they came from.

Still, I tend to be suspicious of the state-of-the-art hardware. How bout a few old PS1’s with a modest television or a bunch of old computers running Oregon Trail instead of brand new Wii’s with widescreens? In my day, we played throw the rock at the other rock.
