Rock Band Coming to UK

this one goes to eleven

The first quarter of EA’s fiscal year (read: April - June) will see the release of Rock Band to European retailers. EA has sold 1.5 million copies (a considerable amount given how much the different instruments cost) in North America already and hopes to replicate the game’s success overseas. Rock Band has won scads of awards and should have no trouble staying afloat in the UK’s booming games market.

Perhaps even more exciting is the news that Rock Band will be rocking the faces of Wii owners soon too. We don’t know if it will be out this year though. This ported version hasn’t been officially announced, but Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos says his company plans to “bring Rock Band to every [relevant] platform.” And if the Wii isn’t a relevant platform right now, then what is?

Perhaps the developers will take a few more liberties with the design of the instruments in order to take full advantage of the Wii Remote functionality? We can only hope that they take more initiative than those Guitar Hero III boneheads over at Activision.
