Rock Band 2 track list
I came across the track list for Rock Band 2 (via Joystiq). This list is from the North American version of the game so the UK track list should be different. It should retain many of these songs but should have a bigger British influence with bands like Oasis etc.

Just upgraded the hard drive on my PS3
Recently I’ve found that I contantly need to delete demos and trailers I’ve downloaded because of a lack of memory so this week I took the plunge and ordered a new hard drive. I got a 320gb 5400RPM Sata drive from Ebuyer, an absolute steal at £56.
I wouldn’t recommend buying a more expensive 7200RPM drive. I checked out a few articles and apparantly it is only marginally quicker. With a 320GB 5400 RPM drive coming in under 60 pounds and a 7200 RPM coming in at over one hundred, it was a no brainer to get the 5400 (which is the speed of the drive which comes with your PS3 anyways).
Upgrading was incredibly easy (I followed this guide). All you have to do is backup your drive to an external usb drive, replace the hard drive with your newer larger drive and then switch it back on. A quick format and then you can restore your files from the external drive.
Backing up and restoring takes around an hour each time but all in all it’s a fairly easy process and one I recommend doing if you’re running out of space on your PS3.

Multiple Play Station Network Accounts
When I got the PS3 last year I set up a PlayStationNetwork (PSN) account with my own UK address and also an account with a USA address. This allowed me to view games from the UK Playstation store and the USA one too.
2 nights ago I decided to set up accounts for Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan too so that I can download games from their marketplaces. The singapore marketplace seems to be identical to the Hong Kong one so theres probably not much reason to sign up to it.
If you have a PS3 and download the odd game, I recommend doing the same as it gives you a better choice of games and games which are also available in the UK are cheaper in the USA, HK and Japan marketplaces.
Setting up an account for each zone is fairly simply. First thing you need to do is create a new user. Then when you go to the PSN area of your XMB you will see that you need to sign up to the PSN again. The registration process is the same as the UK one but my advice is to setup the USA account first so that you are familar with each step again. The major difference with each sign up is that you need to enter an address from that region (I just looked up the addresses of some Pizza Huts in each region, they always have a store locator!).
The Hong Kong registration process is very easy as you can select English as your language (as is the Singapore one). The only difference is you need to enter a Chinese family name too. The Japanese registration process is a bit more confusing since it is all in Japanese but if you do the setup for the for one of the other marketplaces just before you should be familar with each step. However, I recommend using this guide for setting up a Japan PSN account as it shows you each step with screenprints and explanations of each stage.
You may have to use a different email address for each region too but I believe I only had to do this with the Japanese one.
So whats the best marketplace?
In my opinion the USA marketplace is the best overall but each marketplace has games which the other ones don’t which is why it’s worth signing up to all of them.
- UK - Decent selection of games but prices are the most expensive.
- USA - Has the largest selection of games. Games which are £3.50 to download in the UK are $5.99 to download in the USA ie. in general games are marginally cheaper (more savings with more expensive games like warhawk/tekken5). They have a lot of games which haven’t reached the UK as yet (for example Streeth Figher Alpha from the PS1 and Fatal Inertia EX).
- Hong Kong - Not a fantastic selection of games, even less than the UK marketplace. Most games are available in English, Chinese and Japanese (with some available in Korean). Games are incredibly cheap though. The retro games which cost £3.50 in the UK work out to be about £2.20 a game.
- Japan - Great selection of games with titles such as Metal Gear Solid 1 and Bio Hazard 2 (aka Resident Evil 2). Unfortunately, as you would expect, all games are in Japanese so most titles would be unplayable. It’s still worth signing up though as Fighting and sports games are usually easy to decipher, it’s just a shame some of the great titles which are there are not available in English.
Registration takes a few minutes for each region. I won’t lie to you, it’s a bit of a pain in the ass but once it’s done you will have a much wider range of games to download as well as demos, themes and trailers. If you are struggling with any part of the sign up process please leave a comment and I’ll do my best to help
360 rhythm-game instruments will be compatible too
On Monday I spoke about Sonys announcement that all music accessories will be compatible with each other in the future. Well it seems like MicroSoft will be following their lead.
From GameSpot
Microsoft officially confirmed today that peripherals for upcoming Xbox 360 rhythm games from Activision Blizzard, MTV Games, and Konami would enjoy similar support. “All the instruments from Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock Revolution will be cross-compatible,” said Microsoft online community manager Chris Paladino on the publisher’s official marketing blog.
Rock Band 1’s instruments should work with the second installment but they are unlikely to work with Guitar Hero 4. Regardless, this is great news for music gaming fans.
Would you like a Wallet Phone?
CNN posted a news story today about Japans push for their mobile technology to be used more abroad. One of the most popular phones is apparently the Wallet Phone, an ingenius device which brings together the two most common things guys stick into their jeans pockets.
I’m not sure if this would prove popular in the UK though. Can you imagine Orange or Vodafone trying to market this thing?
Japan is usually the leader in new technology but having been there last year, I have to say, some of their gadgets are strange to say the least. That being said, I wouldn’t mind pulling out my Wallet Phone in the pub just to show off to everyone ![]()
PS3 Music Peripherals will be universally compatible
Sony today reported that peripherals for Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 4 will be compatible. This is really good news as whereas the GH3 controller works with Rock Band on the 360, PS3 owners are not so lucky.
For the past several months, we have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility.
For the most part, this means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other’s software. A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software.
And yes, you guessed it, Rock Band 2’s guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution.
Conversely, Rock Revolution’s drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.
In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones.
We’re still working hard to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles currently on the market, and we hope to have an announcement on that shortly.
It makes you wonder why Sony didn’t do this from the start. Nintendo have been pretty good in this regard with the Wii and have made sure accessories work with all titles. This hands on approach is definately needed so that consumers don’t have to but an expensive accessory everytime a new game comes out.
Street Fighter Alpha coming to PSN
PS3 FanBot has reported that Street Figher Alpha (SFZero) will be released this Thursday in the PSN for $5.99.
This PS1 game should go down well and when released in the UK should hopefully retail at the £3.50 mark. However, as usual there is no clear indication when it will be released and going from past release dates it could take months to get here.
It’s very easy to get round this. To be able to access the USA, Japan and Hong Kong marketplaces (the marketplaces which get releases before the UK) all you have to do is create a new sign in and then register with a legitimate address from that Country. Just find a company address on the net and register. You’ll find that the marketplace is not only cheaper, there’s also a better selection of games.
Regardless, it’s good to see some Street Fighter games finally reaching the PS3.

BioShock PS3 Trailer
The PS3 is getting critically acclaimed BioShock this October, more than a year after it was released on the 360. Apparently the graphics haven’t been improved but there are some extras like ‘Survivor Mode’.
Here’s the trailer to give you an idea of what this first person shooter is all about
Some price drops on good games
There has been a few price drops in the last week or so on some great games.
First up is Grand Theft Auto IV. Soft UK currently have this on sale for £25.99.
Next is Guitar Hero 3, which has finally seen a price drop from the £60+ range. HMV and Amazon currently have the Guitar Hero 3 with Wireless Guitar bundle for £44.99 on Xbox 360 and PS3 and £39.99 on the Wii. Not too shabby
Finally there’s The Bourne Conspiracy for the PS3 which is now £17..99 at DVD.co.uk.
Enjoy ![]()
Rumour : Xbox to get price cut in the USA next month
According to an insider via ArsTechnica, the price of the Xbox 360 will be reduced in the USA in September. Traditionally, price cuts in the USA are usually followed by cuts in the UK a few months later so hopefully these price cuts are true and hopefully they will be done in time for Christmas.
Here’s what the Xbox is apparently being reduced to :
- Arcade (no hard drive) to $199
- Pro (60GB) to $299
- Elite (120GB) to $399
Presently I have a Wii and a PS3 but I would be seriously tempted to get an Xbox Arcade if they dropped to just over a hundred pounds in the UK. Here’s hoping it does
