When I bought Half Life 2 a few 3 or 4 years ago I inevitably started playing Counter Strike Source. Infact, it was a game I played almost exclusively for a long time (I bought BF2 but kept going back to CS).

Counter Strike is without doubt one of the best online first person shooter games to come out in the last few years.

Since I got a PS3 last year I have bought 7 games yet the game I keep going back to and the game which I play almost all the time is Call of Duty 4. It’s sapping my time in much the same way Counter Strike has in the last few years.
That got me thinking about what is the better game? Granted COD4 came out a few years after Counter Strike however there are still a lot of similarities between the games.

So what do you think is the better game? Personally I think it’s hard to answer as there are things on both games which I wish were in the other. For example, the ranking system in COD 4 is excellent in my opinion however I used to love the additional maps and mods that Counter Strike had (for example the amazing gun game mod).

I actually drew up a list of comparisons about what each games plus points however I soon realized that it was difficult to do this fairly as I was compariing the PC version of Counter Strike to the PS3 version of COD4. No doubt if I compared the PC version of COD4 to a console version of Counter Strike I would get the same arguments in reverse ie. PC games can be hacked and modified to make the games more friendly which means more hacks and maps for users.
Are there any COD4 players out there who used to by Counter Strike nuts? Do you think it’s fair to make a comparison between the two?

Worlds best FPS games that I've played - In order.

Crysis
Cod4
CSS

Cod5 is coming out soon I heard, but I think Battlefield Bad Company will own it, because of the physix, and the multiple vehicles you can use etc:

Also blowing holes in the sides of buildings and sotrming hideouts sounds crazily awesome! :)

Bad Company is good. It's been out in the UK for a while. My friend has it but I haven't played it as yet (though he raves about it). I downloaded the demo when it came out and I enjoyed it. I'm going to wait til it's a bit cheaper though or try and get a swap for it.

Haven't played Crysis but heard good things. I've watched those videos on youtube though with the barrells exploding

i am a big buff of counter strike myself. i spend almost 4 hours on a daily basis on the game playing along my friends on WLAN. however the exclusive maps just like assault as well as aim headshot are the favorite ones. if you see call of duty on the other hand, its got higher amount of graphics which on comparison to CS are exclusive. but maybe that i have spent so much time on CS, that i feel very comfortable. its like it makes you addicted, you play it once and it gets hold of you as you start winning. sadly this cant be said for cod. it has higher features and better resolutions but sadly doesnt make u an addict. however this is a single verdict. it might vary with others. for beginner level CS is good, as you go higher you can enjoy a lot more excitement at the expert level in COD. isnt it?

I have to disagree. I played counter strike for years and since last December, I've actively played Call of Duty. They're different games but I don't think there is much between them with regards to addictiveness. The hardest part for me coming from counter strike was getting to used to playing a FPS with the playstation controller as I was so used to using the mouse. There are pros and cons to both games though. I used to love the glass wars levels on counter strike and the gun games were awesome as well.
