Asus Eee PC 1000H - XP Edition

It boasts a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB Ram, Draft-N Wi-Fi and a 80GB hard drive. The Linux version has a 40GB SSD which I would have prefererred but they used a cheaper drive to accomodate for the cost of XP.

It weighs in at 1.45kg which is a bit heavier than previous editions but still light for a 10" laptop.

Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146026) currently has the black version for £335 with the white version costs £329. Play (http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/655/862/-/6134153/Asus-Eee-PC-1000-H-Atom-N270-1-6GHz-1GB-80GB-10-XP-Home-NetBook-Black/Product.html?searchtype=genre) have it for £349.99.

I had the original 7" EE with linux and a 4GB hard drive. It was a great little machine but the keyboard was terrible which is why I sold it on ebay and imported the HP 2133 from the USA a few months later. The review does say the 1000H has a better keyboard but it still doesn't look as good as the 2133's. However, it's good to see more and more netbooks coming out and the market seems to becoming more competitive which is good for the consumer.

I'll probably upgrade by next year and by then hopefully the machines will be a bit more powerful and will be able to handle more applications.

I've been thinking of getting one for a while but I'm not sure if I'd use it enough as I already have a laptop which I use around the house.

Solid State Drives are well worth their money albeit expensive, We have several very small laptops coming out here in Aus soon, that have SSD's Awesome buy imo :)

The eee 701 was the only laptop I've owned that booted from a SSD and yes, it was super quick. It really was great in that respect.

I actually write about netbooks and the like and Im really impressed with the Eee 1000H. Of all the endless spec sheets I read, this one makes me want to actually go out and buy the product. Im waiting for the Dell Inspiron Mini though, before I jump in and buy one.

That is very sexy lol. I need a new laptop and I'm very tempted by all the mini netbooks/laptops.

Recently saw some Eee PCs in PC World recently for the first time. I like a lot lol :D.

However, not sure if i could use it because of the size, is what's putting me off. How did you find it Kevin?

The size is fine. I've currently got an hp 2133 1.6ghz with 2gig of ram. I runs on a via 7 processor though so it isn't the fastest and really struggles with video (I mean really struggles!!!). The keyboard on it is amazing though, easily the best laptop keyboard I have ever used and this thing has a 8.9" screen. Which is unbelievable when you consider it's size. The keyboards much better than the one on my Asus G1S and that has a 15" screen.

The keyboard on the eee 701 was terrible but the 10" Eee's have larger keyboards so they should be better.

With regards to the screen size, if you use it a lot you quickly get used to it and it isn't an issue.

I'm keeping tabs on the netbook market however I doubt I'll purchase another one til next year and will just keep using the hp 2133.

I see what you mean lol. Finally got one today. An advent 4211. After looking at the other models. In my opinion, the Eee PC 701 has the worse keyboard. Hopefully more recent models are better and hopefully this one will too :).

i've been following the eee since the start of the year, the 701 was a good idea, but they keep getting more expensive. I think the next one I get is going to be the gigabyte M912 - its a 10 inch screen, but it has built in touch screen, and the screen rotates, so you can use it as a tablet, it runs the atom cpu too, and the keyboard looks decent (but I wouldn't use it if i could get away with writing on the screen with a plastic pencil =)

I think the XP option is a baaad choice, I am not anti Microsoft at all, in fact I use Vista on my desktop and XP on my laptop, but the original Linux based OS was crazy fast and all you need for an Ultra Portable.
